What Your Favorite Color Actually Reveals About You
Most people assume their favorite color is just a preference. Something aesthetic. Maybe nostalgic.
But after years of working with clients — and conducting a favorite-color study with over 900 participants — I can tell you: favorite colors are rarely random.
They reveal emotional resonance, energetic attraction, memory, identity, and frequency. Your favorite color is data.
What the research showed
In 2018, I conducted a study using Munsell color swatches — physical color samples shown without any color names attached. I wanted to answer a question I kept hearing in my client work: when someone says their favorite color is "blue," what blue are they actually talking about?
The results were fascinating.
Blue itself ranked only fourth. By a landslide, participants were most drawn to blue-green hues.
This reinforced something I'd already observed for years: people aren't responding to color names. They're responding to the quality, frequency, and energetic expression of the color itself.
Why "blue" isn't just blue
Two people can both say they love blue and be drawn to completely different expressions of it.
One person gravitates toward a soft, misty blue-gray — a Subdued Frequency. Another feels energized by a radiant turquoise — an Animated or Dynamic quality. Same hue family. Completely different energetic experience.
The hue alone isn't the full story. The quality and frequency of the color carry the deeper information.
What this means for you
Your favorite color isn't just something you like. It's something you're drawn to — and that distinction matters.
